COUNCIL SHARES ITS EARLY CHILDHOOD EXPERTISE AT WORLD FORUM IN MACAOMACAO, China – The World Forum on Early Childhood Education presented a unique opportunity for the Council to communicate its early childhood education experience and ideas to a global audience of nearly 700 educators from 72 countries and learn from experts around the world.

Dr. Valora Washington, CEO, moderated a session that focused on the British Early Childhood Education system and presented on the universal need for well-trained early educators. Many countries face the same issues as the United States – low pay, long work hours and little credit for the valuable brain and social-emotional development early childhood educators can deliver.

“What I heard from Dr. Washington is how important it is to authorize the knowledge base of an early childhood education teacher and that’s what the Council’s Child Development Associate (CDA) credential does,” said Swati Popat Vats, Podar Education Network and president of the Early Childhood Association of India.

Abena Ocran-Jackson, director of Council CDA Programs, presented on professional development for early childhood educators, from high school graduates to Ph.D.’s. “This is exciting because there are people from all over the world that are just like we are in the U.S. – excited about doing innovative things in early childhood education,” said Linda Hassan Anderson, president of the Council’s Board.

Ken Murphy, chief communications officer, moderated a panel title “Keys to Being an Effective Leader.” Panelists from Canada, New Zealand and Hong Kong presented the tools and strategies they use to teach leadership and strategies to increase personal and team effectiveness.

In addition to meeting new friends from Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Council’s team connected with many friends from the U.S., including Jitinder Walia, executive director of the Early Childhood Center at Bronx Community College.

“I’ve trained over 2,000 students to earn their CDAs. The CDA is making a difference,” she said.
